If you are considering retracing the steps of your Arner ancestors, the best place to start is the Zurich (ZRH) airport . When you land there you are only 5 miles south of where the early Arners lived and worked in Stadel and Windlach. The villages are directly under the approach to runway 14 (SSE). OR, departing on runway 32 (NNW) you are directly over Stadel in about two minutes. At the airport, you are only ten minutes from downtown Zurich and the genealogic archives.
Both towns are small pastoral villages located about 10 miles north of Zürich. They are less than a mile apart. In 1988 a visit determined that the Aners had in fact lived in the area (many years ago) but there were none there then and all church records had been removed to the archives in Zürich. Their church was still standing and the pastor very helpful and cordial. There were no signs of burials from that era in the church cemetery. The custom is to bury the newly deceased in existing graves directly over the previous occupant(s). Thus there are no headstones earlier than the current ones.
